The Caribbean Collection: Inspired by the Turquoise Waters of Antigua and Barbuda
Pictured: Half Moon Bay and Countless Shades of Blue, 36 x 36”, acrylic on canvas.
The Caribbean Collection is a series of 10 original paintings by American artist Christina Contaldi. This body of work was inspired by the captivating turquoise waters of Antigua and Barbuda. Famous for their 365 beaches — one for each day of the year — these islands became the artist’s muse when they mesmerized her during her travels.
In these abstract works, Christina captures the complementary essence of the Caribbean waters. Not just in the complementary colors of blues and oranges; but also in warmth and coolness, adventure and relaxation, solitude and connectivity. She constructs a visual story where seemingly opposite desires, can come together in a harmonious way. This is a space where stark duality integrates cohesively, allowing us to have, and be, both.

The Caribbean Collection: Highlights
Half Moon Bay, 36 x 36”, acrylic on canvas.
Original painting, hand signed. Maple frame included.
Half Moon Bay boasts one of the most breathtaking white sand crescent beaches in the world. It’s “U” shaped structure creates a spectacular vision. From a bird’s eye view, it looks like a container of sorts, with water entering through the top inlet, and filling up the crescent bay. The gentle bay waves cascade over the sand on the bottom and sides, in a meditative, rhythmic pattern.
This painting dramatizes a feeling of being “held” in the container, as well as being “filled up” from a well of abundance from the inlet. Simultaneously, it captures the essence of expansiveness and freedom, as excess pours out through the waves on the shore, because there is simply enough to go around.

Countless Shades of Blue, 36 x 36”, acrylic on canvas.
Original painting, hand signed. Maple frame included.
Some works lean slightly more figurative, as illustrated in this abstract landscape Countless Shades of Blue. This original painting celebrates the multitude of blues in the sky, and reflected on the water; and how those blues dance together in the Caribbean environment.
This piece introduces the the warm colors of the sunrise, and sand - ivories, oranges, peach and rose - creating an exciting symphony of color that plays off of each other.
