The Earth Collection: Abstract Paintings Inspired by Nature
Abstract artist, Christina Contaldi, delves into the grounding essence of the earth element in her latest series, The Earth Collection. In this collection, each painting weaves a journey into nature’s embrace, celebrating the energy of the soil, its life-giving organisms, and the oxygen it provides.
Through color, shape, and brushstroke, Christina harmoniously balances chaos and order, reflecting the dynamic dance between nature’s fierce energy and its serene grounding force. The artwork evokes a primal connection to Earth’s rhythms, acting as conduits for viewers to tap into their own grounding energy.
The Earth Collection offers a doorway to introspection, highlighting the interconnectedness of all living beings and the balance in embracing Earth’s wisdom.

As an abstract artist, Christina believes her purpose isn’t to depict a literal representation of nature but to evoke its spirit, its energy.
“When someone sees one of my paintings,” Christina says, “I want them to feel connected to the heartbeat of the earth. I want them to feel grounded, supported by natures embrace, and at peace.”
She goes on to explain what inspired this body of work:
“As a child, I spent a lot of time outdoors, and felt deeply connected to natural environments, the soil, the trees, animals. In those carefree, younger days of childhood, I didn’t feel rushed when I was outside. There were entire days that I could lay in the grass and marvel it’s natural surroundings—like a moss-covered tree or the sunlight streaming through the branches.
Being bored, and having nothing else to do, but look around you, and notice things — is such a gift. Growing up into adulthood, getting busy with an endless “to-do lists” and responsibilities, spending a good portion of the day indoors or even in a cubicle — slowly takes that gift away. You don’t even notice it’s gone until you feel disconnected, and you don’t know why. At some point, you have to find your way back to nature’s embrace, and that is what this collection of paintings is all about. Nature is always there for you, when you are ready to return to its womb and heal — like a loving, nurturing mother.”

Christina works both outdoors, immersed in the environment, and in her home studio. “Before I even touch brush to canvas, I let the essence of the subject fill my senses — touch, sight, hearing, smell and taste. I then filter it through myself and express it back into the world, in whichever medium I am working with. The sixth sense of intuition plays a huge part in my process as well. ”
The Earth Collection’s color palette draws heavily from earthy tones—umber, ochre, greens, and blues—that mirror the vibrant hues found in nature. To capture its intangible energy, she uses sweeping gestures and layering, creating a sense of movement and flow. It's a dance between the controlled and the chaotic, mirroring nature's unpredictability.
